COVID-19 Update: St Patrick’s Cathedral

29 July 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ

A parishioner who attended the 8am Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral on July 19 has tested positive for COVID-19. The person remained outside of the Cathedral during Mass. NSW Health has investigated and determined those who also attended that particular Mass were casual contacts.  Everyone who attended the Mass has been contacted and advised to monitor for symptoms and seek testing if they develop symptoms.  As per our COVID-Safe Plan, the Cathedral was wiped down following the Mass.

If you have attended Mass at the Cathedral since the 8am Mass on July 19 you are NOT required to be tested.

NSW Health has advised that is not necessary to close the Cathedral. The Cathedral remains open for Mass and services for a maximum of 100 people.

Under the Cathedral’s COVID-Safe plan, our staff will clean pews and other frequently-touched surfaces following each Mass.  We will also be temperature-testing everyone who attends Mass and will have hand santizer available.  To comply with the plan, we can only allow 100 people to attend each Mass and they must register contact details with us.

We thank you for your patience and understanding and will keep you updated.

We are committed to working with NSW Health to keep the Cathedral safe.
