Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Re: COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update
NSW Health has eased the restrictions that were put in place for indoor venues (including places of worship) regarding singing and face masks. The below relaxed restrictions will apply from today, Monday 17 May 2021.
Singing
There will be no restrictions on choirs and congregational singing at places of worship.
Face Masks
Wearing of face masks at places of worship continues to be strongly recommended, especially indoors and where physical distancing is not possible. However, it will no longer be compulsory to wear a face mask at places of worship.
Weddings and Funerals
There will be no caps on the number of people allowed to attend weddings and funerals.
COVID-19 Safety Plan
COVID-19 Safety Plans are still required at all religious venues. Parishes will need to comply with their COVID-19 Safety Plans.
The number of people allowed at places of worship and religious services will continue to only be limited by the 2 square metre rule.
If a place of public worship has separate buildings, the maximum number of people in each building is subject to the 2 square metre rule. If there are separate buildings, each building should have a COVID-19 Safety Plan in place.
With my prayers during these times,
Very Rev Peter G. Williams
Vicar General & Moderator of the Curia
